Martial Arts Institute & the Memphis Royce Gracie Jiu-jitsu
Network. Chad is a dedicated professional with twenty-four years
in the martial arts. Chad has a wide-range of experience in Karate,
Kickboxing, Jiu-jitsu, Judo, and Aikido. He began studying marital
arts in 1979 at the age of 9 years old under his instructor, Steve
Stanford. Chad began training under Mr. Stanford at a local community
center along with taking instruction under Don Crenshaw as well.
Mr. Crenshaw took over the karate class at the center where Chad
continued to train. Moreover, Steve moved on to teach karate at
Memphis State University where Chad (10 yrs old) often attended
karate classes at MSU with college students. Chad began competing
in local and national karate tournaments early in his career and
achieved a lot of success.
Additionally, Chad was very active and competitive in many other
sports such as baseball, football, and basketball along with balancing
school, and an active karate schedule.

Chad took a few years off from training between the ages of 12-16
years old due to other competitive sports. At the age of 16 years
old, Chad was in a car wreck and broke his neck in 3 different
places. Amazedly, he survived the serious injury without any major
disabilities. It took 6 to 8 months to recuperate from the incident.
In the same year, Chad continued his training in the martial arts
due to his Instructor Steve Stanford who established Memphis Karate
Institute in 1986. Chad was determined with perseverance to turn
a negative injury into a positive outcome while creating a life
long love and career out of the martial arts. Chad’s Karate instructor

as a leading marital arts school with outstanding awards. In
1994, Chad purchased Memphis Karate Institute from Mr. Stanford
and became the owner and director of the business which is now

Chad Chilcutt became a promoter on the national circuits of
NASKA & R.S.K.C. in 1998. He traveled the circuit for four
years competing and promoting the sport. Additionally,
"The Battle of Memphis" which Mr. Stanford developed
had later been turned over to Chad to carry on the tradition
of the tournament which was promoted on the national circuit.
Mr. Chilcutt traveled the regional circuit for years where he
made several friends with great memories. However, Chad chose
to stop traveling the circuit due to his busy family schedule.
