ARM YOUR CHILD WITH: SELF-ESTEEM, CONFIDENCE AND SELF-DISCIPLINE!!

ARM YOUR CHILD WITH: SELF-ESTEEM, CONFIDENCE AND SELF-DISCIPLINE!! Chilcutt's Martial Arts specializes in teaching and developing children through the martial arts. I focus on developing self-esteem, self-discipline, confidence and concentration in each individual child. The self-defense techniques of karate and jiu-jitsu also improve coordination and balance, stamina, speed, and strength in a positive learning environment. Children in the program learn the valuable character qualities of respect and good manners from instructors selected to serve as proper role models for these traits. Children learn that karate is used for self-defense only and not as a means of aggression towards others. Chilcutt's Martial Arts will help develop each child’s character through fun-filled activities. The Chilcutt's Martial Arts Black Belt Principles of Respect, Modesty, Courtesy, Integrity, Self-Control, Perseverance, and Indomitable Spirit are highly influenced in class.

Self esteem is described as the way an individual feels and thinks about his or her self. Webster’s dictionary defines it as "confidence and satisfaction in oneself, belief in oneself, and self respect." Sport psychologists define self-confidence as the belief that one can successfully perform a desired behavior. Self esteem affects everything we do in our lives. Healthy self-esteem promotes a positive "Yes I Can" attitude, as opposed to a negative attitude of "No I Can’t." Positive self talk and positive reinforcement helps build strong and confident character. This goal explains the integrated curriculum of self development, fitness and fun that characterizes Chilcutt's Martial Arts.

Giving Children Attention Chilcutt's Martial Arts believes in giving children a lot of attention and praise. An important element we teach children is listening. So, we must lead by example and be good listeners to the children. When you listen to people and give them your full attention, you are nonverbally telling them you value them and what they have to say, and that they are important.
Respected Role Models Self-esteem is the armor that helps protect kids from such demons of life as drugs, destructive behavior, gangs, and alcohol. Chilcutt's Martial Arts helps develop children to say, "NO" to Drugs! Chilcutt's Martial Arts creates an atmosphere that encourages open communication from their students, which helps direct children away from destructive activities in life. The influence of Chilcutt's Martial Arts instructors as role models can lead your child to a successful life with self-control to resist the negative influences of peer pressure.

Discipline Chilcutt's Martial Arts believes another important factor contributing to a child’s self-esteem is discipline. Children raised without discipline have lower self-esteem, are less respectful, tend to be more dependent, achieve less, and feel that they have less control over their world
Proper discipline can be the means of creating a safe, supportive environment where learning can take place. Additionally, discipline begins with a good relationship between the parent and child. In martial arts training at Chilcutt's Martial Arts, discipline is an important ingredient. It takes discipline to consistently focus on improving one’s skill. It takes discipline to consistently come to practice and concentrate on the material of martial arts. Chilcutt's Martial Arts helps children to focus on positive action and the accomplishments of mental as well as physical feats. It is the philosophy of martial arts that both the body and mind must be disciplined in order to overcome the obstacles that hinder one’s growth. Discipline is essential to developing healthy self esteem and confidence. Another benefit that comes from this disciplined approach is the improved ability to concentrate on achieving a goal. This increased concentration carries over into other areas of the child’s life such as school-work and team sports.

Responsibilities Chilcutt's Martial Arts helps improve a child as he or she progresses in belt ranking and other students begin to look to him or her for guidance. The student learns to effectively communicate what he or she knows to others while demonstrating leadership skills learned from the instructor. Additionally, they make new friends. Although mastering a martial art can be fun and rewarding, it is not simple. A martial art requires much preparation, self-discipline, and practice, which instills a sense of responsibility in a child. Although martial art training takes place in a team atmosphere, it is essentially a sport of individual accomplishments. The student strives to improve his or her skill for personal benefit, which reinforces the idea of being an important and valuable person. The martial arts student is taught to identify with his or her own unique strengths, and take pride in them. Additionally, a sense of responsibility adds to the self-esteem of a child because he or she realizes that they are in control of their own behavior, that they can make a difference, and that the achievement of goals is possible when they apply themselves.

Chilcutt's Martial Arts students take on many responsibilities. They are responsible for their own accomplishments, for coming to class on time, for eating right and taking care of their bodies, for the way they treat others, and for picking up after themselves. When the child moves up in rank and earns the honor of the next belt, he or she learns the valuable lesson that responsibility feels good! The belt is a sign of how much the student has advanced through a deal of hard work, which shows he or she is committed to the goal of moving forward in the art. Moreover, this is respected by the other students at Chilcutt's Martial Arts. It is a proven positive reinforcement along with setting goals. Success The true armor of martial arts is the self esteem it gives to a person. The strong values learned in karate class create a stronger person. In the martial arts a person learns respect for oneself and others. He or she learns to avoid dangerous situations, yet feels confident in his or her ability of self-defense. Also, the students feel proud of their successes in the karate studio, on the field, and in the classroom. They learn to think positively, to believe in their abilities, and to look forward to new challenges. Chilcutt's Martial Arts enables children to focus on goals, the methods to achieve them, the patience of learning skills one step at a time, and the positive reinforcement’s kids need. Martial arts can build a child’s self-esteem, step by step, by improving his or her physical and mental abilities, teaching discipline and responsibility, improving social skills, and instilling a deep rooted confidence in his or her own abilities.
